A man who wears many hats...
Depending on the day, Tim Birkett is either a songwriter, composer, saxophonist, bassist, guitarist, drummer, arranger, or teacher here in Miami. After many years of quietly recording and amassing a large catalog of music, 2020 is the year that his music is finally going to be unleashed into the world.
Tim’s musical journey started in the late 1980s with Macomb based band Incognito, who released an independent album called “Abuse Your Delusion 1 1/2” in 1993. He also participated in an “all star” group called Caesar’s Ghost, who released the album “Uphill” in 1994. In 1998 after Incognito’s demise, he recorded his first official solo album, “Exile On Johnson St.” which was finished before his move to Miami in 1999, and posted online in 2004, around the same time as his second solo album “Broken Clock” was posted. Since 2004, Tim has recorded and posted over 28 solo albums, his most recent being the 2022 mini album "15 Minutes"
In addition to his solo work, he has collaborated with singer/songwriter Deborah Desilets on several of her solo albums. From 1994-2004 he collaborated with lyricist Tom Zerdin on a “studio band” that was called Conspiracy Incorporated which resulted in a 4 disc album called “On The Side.” He has also been a member of several Miami based bands, including Citizen Bane, Higher Voltage, Stone Monkey, Mr. Sinister, The Blue Collar Boys, One Girl Inc., Southern Drawl, Swamp Drive, Eli Cash, Train Of Thought, Force Three, Triad, Dirk Diggler and Reckless Kind. In addition to playing in bands, he also performs solo acoustic shows where he plays covers and a selection of songs from his own catalog. Currently, he is the bassist/singer for Electric Mayhem and Limerock.
For several years at his teaching job, he has composed several pieces for small school bands, as well as works for string quartets, and other types of ensembles. Many of these songs were collected on compilation albums that will be available soon. The scope of these songs range from the fun of “Dress Code Blues” and “All About HIs Phone” to the dense textures of “Spheres” and the lyricism of his “String Quartet #2 For Mom.”
Tim’s current projects include still playing with Electric Mayhem and Limerock, playing acoustic solo shows, as well as studio projects that have him reuniting with his Incognito bandmates for an upcoming album project, and writing with his Caesar’s Ghost bandmates as well. In addition, there will be lots of new music from Tim in the future.
“I’m really looking forward to 2022. After all this time I am going to finally unleash my music into the world to see what happens. I’m also looking forward to continuing to do shows with Limerock, Electric Mayhem, and my own acoustic shows. It’s gonna be a fun ride!”
