Well,
Got through the month of March with no problems, that was the busiest I've been in a long time as far as playing shows goes. A couple shows ended up not happening, but I had fun anyways. For as busy as March ended up being, so far it looks like April is getting off to a slow start. The only show that I know of for sure is on the 18th when Dirk Diggler is the "host band" at Little Hoolies. I will be getting confirmation on that early this week, so I'll post here if anything changes. Not sure if there is anything coming up with 3RG at this point. Eli Cash just sent me a bunch of new songs to learn, so I suspect that things are going to start moving on that front here soon. There was talk of another show with Matt from Southern Drawl again, but I haven't heard anything more about it other than one text, so I'm not exactly sure what's going on with that. Like I said before, I'm not making a firm decision on whether I'll be continuing with that until I know for sure if it's the lineup that we had the most success with or not. If it's not that particular lineup, I'm likely not going to be 100% involved. I finally got some recording time in today. I recorded drum tracks for 2 songs that I had started last fall. One of them was originally going to be for Force Three, and another one is a killer groove that I came up with last summer. Got a little frustrated with myself, as it took me about 2 hours to get 2 songs down. Partially due to equipment snafus, and partly due to me having to stop and redo tracks. I probably could have just "punched in" on spots where I messed up at, but I try to avoid that when I record. Although, in the spirit of full disclosure, I did end up doing that on one of the songs so I could get the ending exactly how I wanted it. I got used to trying to get full performances as a take from working with my trusty old 4 track for many years, I'm still getting used to the idea of recording in segments to get a full take. Now that drums are finished with those 2 songs, I'm going to try to get them completed this week and maybe post them to my sites by the weekend. I decided at the end of last week that I would approach the backlog of songs that I have by doing a few songs at a time, and then compile them into an "album" after the fact, so that I can get people hearing these songs in a slightly quicker timeframe. I picked out 5 to start working on, and we'll see how that goes over the next few weeks. I also have to make time to work on a couple of songs for Deb Desilets as well... On the composition front, I finally finished up the song for my "day job" a couple weeks ago, and finished editing and printing out parts today. This year's song is a little different, in that it's a 3 movement "concerto" that will be a little over 12 minutes long. I've never tried to do a song like this with my band at school, but I think they can pull it off. We started working on the first movement last week and things are coming together pretty well so far. Hopefully they will be able to pull this off by the time we get to their concert in May. Things at the "day job" are going well, and I am finally at the point where I can start devoting more time to my music projects. Especially now that I have this song finished up on the writing/editing/copying parts end. My plan is to now get back to a piece I started in September and see if I can get it done by the fall. I have a cool plan for that particular piece, but I can't do anything till it's totally written. I'm also starting to again think more and more about trying to get some acoustic shows going for this summer. I'm actually going to go back and find my old "master setlist" that I used back in '03-'04 when I was doing them semi-regularly. Weed out the songs that I don't think would work anymore, and start adding in new songs, covers and originals. I have a ton of new originals since the last time I was doing acoustic shows, so I will be able to have a basically whole new show at this point. Then I'll have to actually practice the songs, and get my guitar chops back in "playing in public
