Big update for ya, as well as a heads up on what I'll be up to for the next few months, plus I promise I'll get back to updating here more often...
Dirk Diggler News:
Just played a raging show at Cafe 27 this last Sunday, and the new lineup is starting to gel. Jaime and Kenny are both taking turns doing drums and Kenny is also fronting the band on a lot of songs when he's not playing. We're (as of right now) taking the month of June off from gigs to revamp the setlist finally. First batch of new covers were tried out this last show and they went over well, even a song from a band I can't stand lol! Should be fun to see what other new songs are added and what songs are kept...there's a real cool vibe around the band right now...We'll be back playing shows in July, so stay tuned!
Triad News:
Nothing to report yet, Scott and I haven't been able to line up our schedules to try to do anything. I'll post news if it comes along...
Solo Acoustic Shows:
I've been playing once a month at Cafe 27 for a while now. Super fun easy gig, except for the one where a frigging MONSOON came in and cut one show short! They don't get a lot of traffic on Fridays, but the vibe is really cool, and I'm able to not only play a lot of covers that I don't normally get to do, I've been featuring a lot of my original songs in the show as well. For the time being, it's the only way to hear me play my own music without going online. I'm going to see about return shows at Pub 925, as well as other places over the next few months as well. I have really been enjoying myself going totally solo again!
Sitting in with Reckless Kind:
As some of you may have seen lately, I've been sitting in with the band Reckless Kind for the last few months. It's a fun easy gig, and I'll likely be doing it for a while yet. Not a lot of rehearsals, and fun shows where I only play bass and only occasionally sing, almost like a musical vacation!
INCOGNITO REUNION:
As I mentioned in the last post, Mike, Rich and myself did get together in March for a jam/writing session. I'm going to be setting up a studio diary page here this week, but I'll give you the "Short" version of how things went:
OH.
MY.
F***ING.
GOD.
NITO.
IS.
BACK!
When we first started playing, there was a little rust in the room, but after jamming on 4 potential song ideas (one as of this week almost a completed song now), we rah through a couple of old originals, "Walk On Water" and "Do Or Die." We played them nearly perfect, and the vibe, power and magic of the 3 of us playing was SOOO there!!! I don't even know if I can put into words how excited (wired??) I am about this project right now! Still early in the process, so I have no idea when we'll have anything to share with the world, but I know we'll have something soon, and I think it's gonna be something really special!
Symphonic projects:
There has been slow progress on the "Electric Symphony," and I am shooting for trying to have it finished by the time the "day job" kicks back in. Once that is done, I will be diving into the full Symphony I've been plotting for a while now.
Project with my friends Pat and Karl:
Back in 1993, I participated in a sort of Macomb "supergroup" project called Caesars Ghost. I co-wrote and played several instruments on several songs on the album called "Uphill." While I was up in Illinois this last time, I had a chance to talk to the 2 main collaborators of that album, and found out they were working on a new project together. I asked them if I could hear what they were working on, saying that if I had anything that would fit with what they were doing, I would like to be involved. They sent me 3 really killer demos, and I immediately told them "I"m for working with you guys on this if you want!" Needless to say, I'm working with them. I just started a new song for them tonight, and I hope to get it to them tomorrow night to see what they think.
Project with Bob:
We've both been too busy lately! More news here later!
And on top of all that...
New Solo Album:
I start recording my next "solo album" next week. I have a rough outline of how the music is going to go, and I already have all the lyrics done, looking to do something a little bombastic this time around I think...
As you can see, I'm going to be pretty busy for the next few months and more, plus figuring out how I'm going to get all this music I'm sitting on out into the world where people can buy it. Not to make me rich, but at least so people can have it tf they want it...
For now...
THIAT IS ALL...TB
