Anyway, since I'm back at the "day job," I'll call this my end of summer update. August has been a pretty productive month as far as gigs, only 1 with a band that I'm actually in though…HA!
Outside of a Dirk Diggler show on the 10th, all the gigs I played this month were either the open mic house band at Little Hoolies, or filling in for other bands. I have to say that was pretty fun. On August 1 I played bass with Stalking Mildred at Little Hoolies, which was a real good time I have to say. Then last week I was asked by the guys in Limerock if I could play drums for them again on the 23rd at JP Mulligans, and I was free, so I said sure. Fast forward to Friday, about 3:30 and my cell phone goes off in the middle of my class! Limerock were asked to not only play Saturday, but Friday night as well, and they wanted to know if I could do both nights! I was good with that, and it ended up being a really fun couple of nights I have to say! It's always fun to get a chance to play drums for me! The Limerock guys were happy with how I played, and I was told that I'll probably get used by them a few more times while their regular drummer recovers from surgery.
As far as my regular bands go, Dirk Diggler will be in action at Cafe 27 on September 25, and I haven't heard about any dates past that at this point. There has been no news on the Eli Cash front, so I really don't have anything to report there…
The new band is gelling really well! We've been in rehearsals since May if I remember, and things are really coming along nicely there. We have a name, but we're not making it public just yet. Yes, we FINALLY agreed on a name! I'm hoping that we will start thinking about booking some gigs soon. The initial sets are starting to come together, and I'm really excited with what we're gonna sound like live. I finished up upgrading my effect pedal setup to give me some more sonic options with this project, including getting a device that will allow me to play synth parts a la Geddy Lee for some songs. Tried that out at our last rehearsal, and wow that is gonna be a challenge, but at the same time it was awesome to see how much bigger we sounded. This is gonna be awesome…
The summer camp job I did ended up having a nice side by-product too. I was teaching kids how to create music on the program Garageband, and in the process of making "demo" songs and writing on the program when I had down time, I ended up with about 15 fairly fully developed song ideas that I can put towards the Conspiracy Inc. project. I've been busy with getting back in the swing of the "day job" and learning songs for the new band the last couple weeks, but I plan on going through those songs here in the next couple weeks and see where that project is now. If all the songs that I did are all of pretty good quality, then I'll start doing overdubs on them and getting on writing lyrics and getting some lyric contributions from Tom as well.
Haven't had a chance in the last few months though to really give the Mike/Rich project much attention. Again, once I'm fully back in the routine of "day job," I'm gonna try to lock myself away somewhere to really sit down and iron out all the holes that I managed to dig myself into with that thing. Hopefully there will be some real progress soon there…
I have another studio project with my friend Bob that I have to send him some demos of to see what he wants to work with. That could be another fun thing to do…
Still have a bunch of "solo" songs to go though as well...
Guess that covers things for the moment…as far as I know I'll be at Hoolies this Thursday, and if anything else comes up, I'll do a better job of keeping this updated!
That is all…TB
