Looks like the Cafe 27 date has changed…I'll let you know what the new date is soon...

For those like me, who teach for their "day job," IT'S WINTER BREAK FINALLY!! Boy, I think I really needed this time off… It's gonna be a fun 2 weeks for me around here. On the 26th I'll likely be at open mic at Little Hoolies, and then Eli Cash debuts it's new show on Saturday. Had a LONG rehearsal with the band this last Saturday, and the new songs work out better than I thought they would. We have a new drummer and a keyboard player, and things came together really quickly, and I think these new songs will be fun to play. More "pop" oriented than the older stuff we were doing, so it will be interesting to see how the new songs go over. Should be interesting, that's for sure. There are already several new Eli Cash shows lined up, and I'm posting them on the Upcoming Gigs page. It seems like things are going to be ramping up as far as gigs with these guys, which is a good thing. Taking a different approach to playing the new material too. I'll be playing 6 string bass with the band now, as a lot of the songs have extended range in the bass, and it will make things a little powerful on the low end. The other plus is that I'll only have to take two basses with me for Eli gigs! There is also some confirmed Dirk Diggler gigs to report as well! DD will finally be returning to Cafe 27 on January 2, so that will be just awesome! There are also some other ones that will be posted in the Gigs page as well. We played open mic this last Thursday at Little Hoolies, and that was a blast. It was also Jamie, our drummer's birthday, and it was great to help him celebrate as well. Cafe 27 is gonna be a great time, since it's been so long since we've played a full show, I have a feeling that we're gonna really tear it up! Plus, Thursdays at Cafe 27 are always a party as well, it's just a great recipe for a great night. In between the gigs this break, I'll also be working in my little studio on several music projects. I have a batch of "solo" songs that I've been working on for the last year that I'm going to try to finish up. The songs that are already finished sound really good, and I'm excited to get the rest of them finished up for everyone to hear. I have also started working on the compositions for my school bands as well. I have a few sketches of things that I have to start fleshing out, so that will be awesome. I love this time of year, as I start having the time to really bear down and create! I also have some new stuff from Deb Desilets to go through, the project with Mike and Rich, AND my "side" project Conspiracy Inc. to work on. The show that I did with Ronnie from Stalking went really well, and we all had a good time. The show kind of took me back to the 'nito days, as it was a backyard party! Haven't played a gig like that in what, maybe 20 years? It actually went so good that we may do some more shows like that at some point. There is still a chance that I may have another project to play in, but I don't have any real new news on that at this point. All in due time I guess…I have to say, 2013 was a real good year as far as doing shows and being visible around here. I'll have a "real" reflection on the year that is ending up later this week. In the meantime, I guess I had better get my last minute shopping done, right? I hope everyone has a fun, wild and safe holiday season!! That is all…TB Had an informal rehearsal with the Eli Cash guys today, ended up being kind of interesting. We have a show coming up on December 28, and we're going to be finally getting the long promised new show together to debut it that night. I've been spending time in between all my other stuff working on learning about 40 new songs for the show. Some of them I had down really good, some, well, not so much. We rehearsed at the singer's place, and it ended up being just me, the singer and our lead guitarist. It was a bit of an adventure getting to the place, and when I got there I was informed that the drummer that is going to be playing with us on the 28th was out of town, and our second guitarist apparently called the singer this morning and told him that he was leaving the band. I was a little shocked by that, but I think it will be fine going forward. So we spent the morning (a 10:30am rehearsal? who does that? ;) ) talking about what direction the band was going to go with, and then we sat around and started getting some arrangements going on the new songs. The new batch of songs should be interesting, more pop rock oriented than what we have been doing, but I think we'll still pretty much "rock out" this batch of songs, so it should be interesting to see how the new show goes over. I'll be using my 6 string basses exclusively now with Eli Cash as almost all of the new songs can use the extra range of notes that a 6 string bass can bring to the party. One nice upside of that for me is that I'll only have to bring a couple basses with me to E. C. gigs now! The remainder of the weekend for me is going to be getting the songs that I will be playing with Ronnie next week up to speed. It looks like we'll be doing that gig on no rehearsals, so I have to make sure I'm solid on these songs so things sound good. I went through them this last week, and there were only a few that gave me some trouble getting down. I'm gonna work on those tonight and tomorrow, and spend some time each day this coming week running all the songs down so that I'm ready for that show. I'm starting to look forward to it too! It's from what I understand a private party thing, so that is why there isn't a mention on the Upcoming Gigs section here. In Dirk Diggler land, there are gigs coming up. The band will be playing Little Hoolies the next 2 Thrusdays hosting Open Mic, but I won't be there this first night due to a scheduling conflict. I will be with them the next Thrusday though, so come out both nights and say hi to the guys in the band! There are some dates in the works for the band at Cafe 27, and as soon as they get confirmed with all of us, I'll be putting up the dates. I'm hoping that we'll know which ones they are in the next few days. I actually thought I would know which dates by now… That is all…TB |
